I do not know any details other than this article. Unfortunate whatever the circumstances where.
Be safe.

That's unfortunate for sure. It would be helpfull to know more. Anytime there's and accident on whitewater, I can't help but feel shortchanged by the media and, perhaps more importantly, the whitewater community itself. Detailed accounts of incidents that result in whitewater fatalities, while often gruesome or hard to swallow, are integral to our continued progress towards forseeing and preventing accidents.

Condolences to families and friends related to the councilman.

Sad news, for sure. Thoughts to his family/friends, and those involved in the recovery.

From the variety of news articles I've read it seems this happened in a "log jam" with "steep walls" 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile above the hatchery at the take out. It seems to me that the prime candidate location would be river left against that wall just below the Spirit Portage/Chaos. That ferry can be tricky, and at low flows it would be easy to get deflected by a rock. There was some other wood below there down to Master Blaster earlier this summer, and a piece in MB itself - but the only "Log Jam" I remember in that distance above the hatchery is the one right below Spirit.

It would be helpful to know definitively where this accident occurred.
