I've been getting some calls about boating.  Unless anyone wants to meet me in Port Clinton Pennsylvania, I'm out til the New Year!  I plan on running the mighty Schuykill while I'm home with my family.  I'll either go in a rec kayak or canoe!
Happy Holidays!
Franz

Franz, Happy HOlidays from the Old Country, Pennsylvania. I saw a Westy with an Ammo and some playboat too. Last night the 12" of snow that we had on the ground flash melted with a few inches of rain falling on it! Its probably pretty good somewhere here.

hey Franz, when you get off the Schuykill, be sure to share a 'lil T.R. with us. I ain't expecting any "class V tales of terror" or nuthin, but it would be cool to hear about your trip, what kind of craft you ended up paddling, and how it went.

My buddy Jason Weirich and I put in on the Schuykill at the Hamburg park. We floated to the bridge in Shoemakersville and used the paint ball parking lot for loading boats. My brother and his wife let us borrow their boats and ran shuttle. Their kaykas were different. I was in a "keowee" (spelling might be wrong) and my buddy used an old town 12 footer. There were a couple of fun little eddy lines and a few very small wave trains but nothing more than 1+. It was a perfect day. It was cool to run the waterway through my old stomping ground. I had spent lot of time on the river as a kid but never did a float. I caught one glassy surf that was sweet. We used to catch 10-40 inch channel catties in there all night...

My brother had 4 hot dogs from sheetz in his truck at the take out and we went to pick up his wife who was helping friends bottle a lot of wine. We tasted wine and my brothers buddy gave us a couple of bottles for the road!

Great trip!

good 'ol fashioned river runnin, or, as the term used to be (and is still employed to this day back east) - "Cruising"

speaking of cruising I want to do a cruising trip: sometime during the in-between season after the first of the year when there isn't too much running

Put-In at the confluence of the Snoqualmie and the Skykomish and paddle... very far. Probably the entire Snohomish. That would be a P.F.D. I'm thinking I'll take my sea kayak, since it's the most appropriate craft I have for such a trip. Anyone interested in this trip should have  at least some sort of 15' craft geared toward flatwater paddling.

If anyone is interested in such a trip, please contact me. Send me a PM or something. Sometimes this whitewater bullsh*t gets boring. It would be great to find someone who wants to crank it out- someone with a 15-17' kayak who can get into paddling about 30 miles nonstop (aside from the odd safety/pee/snack breaks) at a moderately fast pace.

Of course, I ain't gonna hold my breath around here waiting for someone to express interest. I'm prepared to do this one solo, but I'll keep everyone here informed so you can join me if you want. Stay tuned.
