Hey All,Deborah and I are looking to break out of the beginner boats and look for something more playful/maneuverable than our Diesels 65/75.  They've been great boats for us but we'd like to step up to something else.

Now then, we will definitely try the Jackson boats (like a 4Fun for me, for example) and want to get boats that are more geared for river running still but a bit more playful (surfing, yes, cartwheels, I seriously doubt it).

Some stats (all weights are without gear):
 Arn - 6'2", 170 pounds, size 12 shoes.

Deborah - 5'6", 135 pounds, size 9 shoes.  Deborah also has a "special" problem with her hips - hyperflexibility - so needs to find a boat that she can really lock in the hips to stop her legs from rotating too far.  Her first experience trying a Jackson in the pool wasn't too positive but that could just be a matter of adjustment further.

Anyway, what boats should we consider??  After getting some suggestions, we'll head over to SRK to try some boats out in the store/pool/demo before buying.

 Thanks,
 arn

   hey Arn,
Try out the Pyranha Ammo. It's a great boat for what you're looking for. If it's not slicey enough the Recoil should do. Also, you might be able to fit into the Fun. The new Fun is much roomier than the old one and even sportier than the Pyranha's. All perform better with slightly different paddling styles.

I'd also say try out the EZG series from wavesport. I know there's some on this site that don't like them, but my experience with the EZG 50 was pretty favorable.

Dave, You are funny.  I thought that your boat has spent so much time underwater that it proves that osmosis is actually possible through plastic.  I'm not sure that the US Coast Guard is prepared to perform a sea-worthiness test for me on that boat. arn BTW - I hope this post doesn't hurt the resale value of that Tekno.  Sorry. |

Well, I might give it to my son as a first boat for him, but we will see ina few months what the future may hold. If anyone has a used time machine, I would trade it for that.

I wouldn't go near the EZG.
I would recommend the new version of the Fun, whatever the appropriate size is.

Arn,  everyone knows I am a Bliss stick lover, if ya fit!  It is a great boat for me, an intermediate boater with alot to learn. I can play to all of my ability in the RAD's but dont feel like it is squirly.  They are stable, and the new outfitting kicks ass. Check out the thigh braces!!
I paddled the 185 most of last spring, then switched to the 180. They are the least expensive boat on the market, and I havent seen any reason for it. The quality is there, and they are catching up in playfulness.  It is not an aggressive playboat. But if you are good enough, it can be.    Just a thought, we are about the same level, alot of people dont fit in them well, but it is one to consider.       On a side note, ( not to jack your thread)  my WS  ZG 48 is being warrantied, due to the combing ripping apart where the back band passes through it. Has anyone else had this issue?    WS is slow in handeling it,, (as expected ) and I get to pay a pro rated warranty for a boat that I bought new in Sept 2005. Sweet.    Peace   |

The ZG combing issue is a relatively big problem. I had the same thing happen and I spent months moaning and complaining. My bottom line was that the boat was destined to fail and they should give me a new one for free. They wouldn't have it. I was pissed. I had the same exact thing happen with my first All-Star (just got my third one), sent some pics to Jackson and they sent me a brand new one, outfitting, the whole nine, no questions asked. Wavesport is in the midst of be 'absorbed' by a parent company. They don't want to spend more than they have to, even if they should. Jackson is first class. I can talk to EJ whenever I need to. Can anyone even tell me the name of 5 of the owners of Wavesport? Wavesport boo Jackson yeaaaa      |

I'm also having problems with wavesport warrantying my Project 52 for a couple of rips in my cockpit.
This drove me to buy a 2007 All Star. I find that it's not only more comfortable, but a better boat in general. Dang this thing is fast.

Arn,, looks like your thread got jacked,, but it is good info!
The WS issue is pissing me off,, I understand that they only have a year warrenty,   however other companies seem to go well above and beyond. Especially in non river issues,  I can understand the absobsion rate of kayak companies, and the profit magin. But as a consumer, I want more.     Jackson is awsome, so is Bliss-stick,  the small home grown companies have better service. But lack the R&D funding of hte big boys.  Take your pick.   My jerk around by WS is about a month and a half now, I am getting sore!     Also the idea of having to shell out a few hundred bucks for a warrenty is absurd?  no?     |

Aside from the warranty stuff I like my All-Star best. No joke. The WS thing just made it an easier decision. Not to mention the New Fun out performs the Project 52 on big waves hands down. I will attest to the fact. I took the Fun to the Sky when she was at 20,000. Wave Sport sucks.
