Topic: Poll: PP Banner Graphics Posted: 08 Jun 2008 at 11:06pm |
In order to print out a PP banner, I have vectorized the PP "banner" logo (also found on the stickers) so that we can print it out at higher resolution with out pixelation. In doing so, I have played around with some new designs, and want to solicit input. So, vote for the one you like... Also, feel free to comment here, as well. One note - color calibration on monitors is difficult. The Grey is just a bit darker than on the current stickers. Right now, the colors are set to Pantone 124 C and Pantone Cool Gray 11 C. Ok - if you pick "they all suck", you are required to pony up with your own design!

Leif So I like the third logo pictured the best. Would like to see it with a much darker grey like the one you posted previously. I like screwing around with Photoshop etc... myself. So I thought I would submit my own twist. If you hate it, no worries. I am not sure why but the website text won't seem to display properly when I am previewing the image. No matter how high the resolution and quality is in the photo I upload. Hopefully it will come out when I post this. Paddle Safe

I think making the text at the bottom of the new one more readable would help a lot.

I added a gray stroke behind the text at the bottom so the white lines don't run into the text. I'll upload the modification later...

So Mike - The main reason I redid the graphics was to get a banner printed. Banners cost a fair amount of money, so I am only going to make one... Sticker production runs are discounted as well based on the number of stickers printed. To get the discount, they must all be the same...

I think that the original in general has a more elegant composition. It fairley clean as a graphic and the is some hiearchy. In the two options that lief has worked up there is a similar visual weight to the elements and in my opinion is not as succesful. I suggest that if you are going to go w/ option 2 or 3 that you might decrease the size of the text (Boof, plug, gnar......) and move the image of the kayaker off of the "Your PaddleSport Community " line.
and the screen print kinda look and the distressed look for the PP just don't do it for me... the bold print is cooler!
just my humble opinion...

I am not sure if elegant composition and kayaking go hand in hand

New #2 won. Come see the banner at riverfest. I am sure we will get some new stickers printed up when current stock are exhausted.

I like rain's opinion ! yank the your paddle sport's community or make it much smaller, Italic... maybe not. And because were on graphic design and it seems alot of talent in the area, which I have little. To help make it better consider the reasons for the original design. Then the reasons for the new design. the old look was supposed to be designed as : plain but bold, crisp and simple, and of course clean and visible. The areas that were highlighted and focused on, were the fun sides of the community we enjoy. not the community itself. It was more of a tag for people to show off that which had elements perhaps of their their own passion. The boater was un-obstructed! Un cluttered and in free form away from all objects! The way we all wish we could be at heart. The logo was partial just for design, but in the fashion of the original look of PP. The words atop were to prevoke conversation in those you meet, who were to ask, what is a Boof, or more common, MeatPile? Swim was of course last as it always must be! And to follow swimming just smaller was the URL not meant to advertise but rather expose the last possible interest that one might have in finding out more about who we are. It can be designed many ways but the core ideas are pretty fun. Just don't make it so earthquakish, and lastly you can't make money from any of it, since I DON"T, you Can't. If it says PP and there is money left over, which I doubt will happen since that seems to be the trend, YOU should donate it to the memorial fund or another good cause, not the Leif Charity or Expose Hugo fund either... a real one!

Um...who said anything about making money off it. Anyhow, James, hope you like the graphics. As you recall, I called you and asked if you were ok with it. The banner will be displayed at riverfest, as well as other events. As far as stickers go, at some point, we are going to need more. Not sure how many you have left. I do want to make some die-cut vinyl stickers like the nookie one. I am going to get one made as an experiment. If people like it, we will make a few more, and, of course, they will be sold at cost.

I like the idea of an "Expose Hugo" fund. Speaking of which, wasn't Hugo supposed to be outed at the ball? I believe I was promised Hugo's head on a pike!
