Topic: thursday headworks Posted: 05 May 2009 at 8:55pm |
Anyone free for a thursday Headworks run? I'm available any time. It will be my first HW run but I'm pretty solid on II+, good at eddies, ferries etc... pretty decent roll. Want to do HW before my friends talk me into lower gorge! Or before I talk them into taking me... :-) Have done the wenatchee under 4000 with no problems and the Macal section on the Futa but not sure what to compare that to here in the states...

Hey Reina!
I may be free Thursday afternoon. Haven't done the Headworks before, but I bet we could figure it out, and maybe even recruit someone else for the cause. :)

FYI, the Headworks at 1300 is pretty washed out and the weir has some gnarly holes that resemble the Sky weir. Hardly any eddies at that level and you won't have much time in terms of getting to the takeout. If you miss it, then you'll end up doing the 1st rapid of the upper. I can only imagine what it would be like at 2k. What about the yo yo stretch after the lower gorge? There is also the snoq runs (powerhouse and club stretch) as other possible alternatives.

Sampson are you talking about the Green Headworks? At 2k it is friendly and easy to run with plenty of eddies and places to take out. The only hard drop is the Railroad drop weir area. It is easily scoutable with big eddie service.

yah, i did it 3 years ago(can't believe it's been that long and stuck doing class III/easy iv). being the noob at that time, i remember it being quite intimidating and washed out except for the weir. so pretty much u boogy down there really fast like less than 30 min.

Hey LIz! I was told, like Dave said, it's pretty friendly around 2K... I'll ask around some more. I'm free any time tomorrow, you name the time for the meet up. I'll PM you with a # too. Still would love some more experienced boaters to come with us! I'll keep bugging my friends...
