I am new to the area and wondered if anyone would be on the sky tomorrow? I would love to tag along on a trip. I realize this may be the wrong forum but I am new to professor paddle. Let me know!

Welcome to the NW, and more specifically the online community that is Professorpaddle.com.  I'm not a Seattlite, but I live in the Olympia area and am a frequent boater.  Tell us a little about yourself/skill level/ availability/ style of choice/etc. It makes people a little more responsive when your more than a phone number and a screen name.

As far as the site goes, there is a tool for seting up formal trips, but as of late people have been frequently using the general whitewater chitchat forum to inquire about peoples availability/interest in trips.  Make sure you take some time to peruse the site, there are lots of good resources and information available. I like it most as a place to ask for beta or ask paddle specific questions.  The forum has lots of good topics, but because it is a public forum there is some stuff out there that is less than useful/relevant, don't let some of the inter-personal quibbling scare you away from this resource, the best thing to do is do like I do and observe from afar, and let it be like a version of reality TV.

If it wasn't for this site it would have taken me a long time to get into the NW whitewater community, so for that I am grateful, so just take the site as it is: "warts and all".  Again welcome to the NW, the best place for whitewater in the United States.

-Jed

PS: sorry, but I won't be available to paddle on the sky.
The line will become apparent

Thanks Jed for the information. I have just moved from the southeast (My wife is getting her PhD in engineering at UW) and have been paddling for the past 6 years. For anyone framiliar with the southeast I ran Sec IV of the Chattooga 1 million times at every water level. I paddled Tallulah a whole lot. Paddled the Green narrows a couple of time minus the big three. Upper Gauley, Ocoee, Overflow, and lots of other stuff. I am definately confident with class IV stuff. Havent paddled much lately so wouldnt want to jump on anything much over IV-IV+. In the west I have paddled the Canyon section of the South Fork payette at high water. Staircase section a couple of times. Riggons section of Salmon at around 35,000 and stuff like that. I am definately looking for people do both ski and boat with. I love to get out and go on adventures, so hit me any and everyone for outdoor fun.

I know a cat boater who wants to get on it; I might if nothing closer to I-5 pans out; it would be an interesting crew...
More water, please.

There is a small group of boaters meeting at Big Eddy at 10:30 - at least  one cat and one raft but there will probably be others.  You are welcome to join us.

I'm leading a WKC trip today but only one person is coming from the WKC.  All of the others are paddling buddies.  There's probably going to be about 10 of us.  We're meeting at Split Rock at 10:30.  I'm calling the WKC trip off and just paddling for the fun of it.

Hi Bobby, my husband and I just moved over from the Southeast as well back in July. We paddled all those great runs you were talking about and like you are taking it a little easy for now and getting to know the area. We would love to hook up with another se boater so give us a shout. Heading to cc stilly today. Will be there around noon.

Hi BoaterBob!

Welcome to the area! The PNW is an amazing whitewater haven; there aren't many other places you can boat year-round. I hope you find yourself loving it here, as many of us do!

Regarding the site, I agree with Jed, take it "warts and all", but don't let that scare you away. As with any community, you have all kinds of people with all different kinds of personalities, but we all have at least one thing in common: an interest in whitewater!

The Sky is a great river that is almost always in, so it's kind of a "standard" for many people when other rivers aren't running/runnable, OR it's just a run people like to do no matter what.

The site is basically self-explainable, and the more you read, the more familiar you'll get with how others use it. Personally, I use it for questions, beta, and trip inquiries/notifications.

Since you're new to the area, why don't you join us for the Monthly Whitewater Movie Nights? We just started them this Fall and have them at AquaSports in Redmond, WA every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7pm. Feel free to bring your wife, kids, friends, or whomever! It's a great place to meet people and enjoy an evening of whitewater movies. Snacks provided; BYOB. The next one will be on 14 December.

Hope to SYOTR soon!

P.S. Hit up CC Stilly if you can!!
