I've got some questions about speed changes in FCP 7.

Anybody use final cut a lot? Lets connect.

I shoot everything in 60fps; be it on the 7d or the GoPro.

FCP runs its timeline at 24fps.
Soooo... if I just import the footage with log and capture, it drops every other frame. So, if I slow it down, its no longer 60fps slowed down, its 24fps slowed down= glitchy.

If I use motion to conform to 24fps, looks crystal clear, but twice the frames in teh same timeline, therefore, runs at less than half the speed. If I increase the speed to about 225% to get normal looking motion, I get wierd atrifacts on colors like paddle blades and trees.

How can I take advantage of my 60fps in a 24fps timeline without getting the artifacts?

Motion will not allow me to only conform a  selected portion of the clip while it is in the timeline or slug, I am forced to conform the entire clip, or nothing at all.

Did any of that make sense?

Cheers

Use Cinema Tools, which is part of the Final Cut Pro package. My workflow is such:

1 Make a copy of all of the original media so that you have an unmodified, unaffected version to fall back on

2]Open Cinema Tools and do a batch conversion of the footage files, setting the frame rate to be whatever you want

3 CinemaTools VERY QUICKLY (like, in a matter of a few seconds) changes the frame rate settings on each clip to the new frame rate, essentially "baking it" into the raw 7D .MOV (which is why it's a good idea to save an original version of the footage somewhere)

4 Import via AMA or transcode the footage into Media Composer...

5 Done! Slo-Mo, AMA still an option, and it only takes a couple of seconds to do it.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions. This can be done with either FCP or Avid.
