   Topic: Large kayak wanted for self contained Selway trip

I have an offer to join a Self contained Selway trip and am looking for a Kayak to paddle this great river with. It would be great if it had a hatch but could just be a large boat.
Any recommendations would be appreciated, does anyone have a suitable boat for sale?

The wave sport recon 93 has an enormous capacity for gear. I packed a full tent, stove, purifier, very bulky food, and a bunch of other crap down the sf salmon and selway last year and had enough extra room for AT LEAST two more twelve packs of beer behind the seat (I brought in 18 on each trip). The only bummer about the recon and other models like the stomper, remix, new nomad, new mamba, is that it is really a pain to put stuff in front of the bulkhead. Prohibitively so. But, it didnt bother me any.

Oh, and it also paddled really, really well fully loaded. The boat I previously used for overnighters was an everest and, while that paddled well loaded down, the Recon 93 is light years ahead in my opinion. I was super happy with the way it performed with all that junk.

I've multiday'd/self supported out of a Zen 65 and a Stomper 80. The Zen wasn't too bad and was fairly easy to paddle! The Zen was a bit more easy to manuever vs the Stomper (the rocker is difficult on the flats of the Rogue). The Stomper was awesome for packing cause you can lift up the backband and get your items behind the seat much more easily than say the Zen or a fixed back band boat.
One thing I did in the Stomper since I couldn't get my stuff behind the footpegs, was to move them as far forward as I could and then packed equal dry bags in front of them and fixed the dry bags so they didn't come out easily if I swam and didn't pose a foot entrapment danger. This works out good with things you can squish. I obviously wouldn't put my crackers in one of those bags :)
Good luck! And the best advice I got was to PRACTICE packing my boat before the trip. I thought it would be a piece of cake, but it posed quite a challenge! HAVE FUN!

Both the Fluid Bang, and Big Bang are designed for this. I can pack my Big Bang's stern super easely as it has a hatch but you can also remove the bulkhead foot board easely and access the bow. Good luck finding one though. I just bought the last two on the wast coast I think. No I'm not hoarding them... One for a friend.

Thanks for all the advice, it is great to be able to tap an online board like this and get specific pertinent help. Now really who has one of these easy to pack great to paddle yaks for me to buy?

I have an older Wave Sport Descent in great condition that I would part with for cheap. It is a very high volume river boat.
