Topic: surf/play boat/river runner for a large paddler Posted: 07 Feb 2015 at 7:10pm
Alright, I'm looking for a boat that will run river and enable me to exercise my not so awesome play skills. I really only surf, blunt, spin and squirt. I'm 6'3 200lbs with size 13 feet. I'm looking for a comfortable boat as I am old and decrepit now and I get enough abuse on my feet at work and refuse to be uncomfortable. Yet I don't want to be left out of surfing fun on the wenatchee and Tilton. What are my options? Boats I'm considering are the axiom and the fun runner 70. Though I briefly sat in the axiom 8.5 and it crushed my feet. I may be able to work that out though with some old school foam tricks.
Have you tried a Fuse? I enjoy mine for play boat river running, and I paddle mine down the Tilton and Matheny all the time. It has enough volume distribution to keep it stable in the rapids, and of course the flat hull will allow you to do everything you are looking to do on a wave. I am not sure how you would fit in the largest one, but I find mine to be "Good" on the comfort scale. I paddle the medium model, otherwise I would let you try it out.
