Topic: Kid kayak run Saturday Posted: 11 Aug 2011 at 10:33am |
Would anyone be up for a kids kayak run down an easy class I / II stretch of the Skykomish on Saturday? My 7 year old son really wants to paddle his hardshell but I still have my daughter to tend to so I'll need to take the 2-man inflatable kayak with her. I could really use another (or more)hardshell boater along for safety. Courtney

Hey Courtney,
I'm planning on taking my 5-year-old daughter in a Dynamic Duo on Friday. We're going to do the South Fork to Boulder Drop. We might portage Boulder Drop and continue on down to Split Rock.

If I had someone to watch my daughter I might be up for that with my son but three of us won't fit in our 2-man inflatable and my son can't kayak that stretch in his hard shell yet. Any idea's? Courtney

Christian, Did you have any trouble with your daughter being afraid to be un-side-down in a kayak? If so, how did you handle it? Courtney

lol! Beautifully stated. I concur with your daughter, Courtney. I'd like to read Christian's response; it could possibly relieve me of my fear when I am upside down and "un-side down" in a kayak. I AM a kid at heart ;)

Joining the take-your-kid-kayaking club! My 7-year old is clamoring for it, I want to take him out in an inflatable on some class II. Hardshell can wait in my opinion, too much to worry about with the wrong-side-up thing :) And talk about finding a sprayskirt that will fit such a skinny kid...

WeI bought the smallest spray skirt we could find for Andy, then I pulled it tight around him and stitched it up so that it fit him. When he grows I can cut the stitches out and make the tunnel bigger. Finding affordable splash tops and such when you know they are going to outgrow them in a year is much tougher.
