Hey Everyone,

I just moved out to New York, obviously just at the right time as you have all the water and the east got about 2 inches of snow this year. I'm trying to hook up with some boaters and figure out the scene here. I know a few of you have given me some tips and folks to look up, but I'm just trying to cast the net a bit wider.

Thanks
Chris

Not sure if you've given this one a whirl but hit up www.npmb.com and ask the same question. Ditto for the "Where's the Whitewater At" group on Facebook.

Probably not the bullseye for hooking up with NY boaters, but fairly close.

NPMB

Northeast Paddler's Message Board. Very similar to PP.

Where in NY state are you? Or are you in the Big Apple?

Thanks guys. I'm in the Big Apple. Wouldn't touch the river outside my window with a carbon fiber stick. But I did join the NE Message Board.

-Check out the dam release schedule at NPMB and post up to see if anyone else is hitting up any of the runs.

-Also- If you are up to it - put up a post asking for folks to hit up the Popolopen. Class V creeking, supposedly very (30-45 minutes) close to NYC. Even if it's not in season you'll probably dredge up some NYC boaters who will probably chime in.

-One other note - there EC boating scene is way more interconnected because of the dam-release nature of the boating there (not much running, everyone congregates at the same runs). If you're willing to do a bit of driving along with your message board activity you're likely to hook up with folks in your hood via old fashioned social networking.

Let us know how it goes!
