Some lousy knave came in the night and usurped my kayak from the top of my van. The unscrupulous villan simply sliced the straps (sorry Matt) and absconded with the boat. I left it up there often and for my remissness I am now rewarded. This happened in Wallingford. The kayak is an orange Jackson Rocker for which my love had gone. Most missed will be my rescue kit and the happy seat. Could have been a boat I really loved and with the gravity of recent events it seems hardly worth posting this but I thought peeps might be inspired to take care.

I echo Jay's condolence.
Being robbed stinks, you know I am intimately aware of that.
But, I suppose this will encourage you to buy a new boat sooner, eh buddy?

That sucks, sorry to hear man. I'm getting ready to drive a van with kayaks and surfboards through scetchville central. From Seattle all the way through southern california, mexico, and on to El Salvador.
All three of those regions are unsafe to leave things unattended on the roof. Will disappear immediately.
I found this link for cam straps that are reinfornced with stainless steel so they can't be easily cut, and then the buckle has a locking system. I haven't ordered mine yet but I'm planning to soon:

Perhaps some sort of net or tarp to conceal your treasures. Not attracting attention and stealth are very helpful when trying to maintain a wealth steep wealth gradient. Folks wont steal what they dont know is there.

I believe a cable lock will deter 90% of thefts. Yes, it can be cut but that takes much more initiative and exposure.
The one time I didn't lock my boat was when it got stolen. I'm pretty good now about always locking my boat when it is on my car.
Sorry about your stolen boat, that sucks!

I would guess that it will show up on Craigslist - though maybe a non-Seattle one and maybe many months later. You could set up an auto search on a number of Craigslists with your boat info and maybe something will pop up.
I remember some guy had his bike in Portland stolen and several months later it was listed on a Seattle Craigslist ad and he was able to meet the guy - with police waiting.
Just have some kind of proof of ownership or purchase (store might still have your info) when you meet the miscreant.

I'm a big proponent of always bringing the boat inside. If I'm crashing a friend house in the city they boat is going either in their yard or some other off the street location.
