Mine held up for about three years, this past season pretty much tore it up, though. Now it's more of a splash top.

The one I have is more like a semi-dry top, but it still works great and its been handling the abuse.

I have a pretty old NRS drytop that i got back in 2000. It is not
breatHable. I haven't worn it much lately but its held up pretty well to
my abusive tendancies towards gear. gaskets are the onLy thing to
have worn out. my good buddy always gets nrs drysuits and the
newer versions do seem pretty nice....

Breathable = Gortex (or similar) vs. Nylon (or similar). I.e. whether it lets wator vapor out when you sweat and keeps you dry(er).

i meant breathable! i think nrs's breathable material is called
triton...one other note is that i'm not a hardshell boater so i can't
say anything about how the skirt tunnel worked. i used to use it
in conjunction with some kokatat drypants. i would stay dry until
i submerged. ahh the good old days of freezing my ass off in
duckie and raft! also my drytop is an old model and i'm sure they
have changed over the years...

Yo Ashley, the NRS Drytops are great tops but there are better tops out there. There are just few companies that will stand behind their products the way that NRS does. They have one of the best warranties in the business and are super close (Idaho). So if you want to beat hell out of a top and know that you can warranty it for almost any reason, buy NRS. I have a Palm Dry top and Drysuit and have had good luck with Palm, also the Gore Kokotat is hard to beat.

I had the NRS revolution for the last couple years (until I lost it) and really liked it. It's heavy tough fabric but breathable. I bought the same drytop again.

Check out www.levelsixinc.com their stuff is sweet and pure quality, not mass produced, so they have a little more control over what leaves the company.

Kokatat and Palm are also on my list. I know its silly, but I'm trying to find the best drytop... in a color I actually like. Level Six maybe, I know Heather Herbeck paddles for them, and she mentioned to me that the gear was awesome.

Check out the Level Six stuff carefully. Leavenworth Mtn Sports brought in Level Six and some stuff was great but then there was a drytop that had "vent holes" in the arm pits (actual little holes). Good luck finding a top.

Tobin, I've got IR. And I'm not pleased with how it has held up. Plus, they do not make a full-dry top for women, only semi- dry. AND I don't want pink or white... =P

while nrs may be good for things like booties, gloves and straps, i would be careful when buying big dollar stuff from them, they may have good customer service, but that does not change the fact that their stuff is mostly crap. nrs=not really stitched...food for thought.

I was talking about the men's, I don't know how they are holding up.
My NRS drytop is 2 years old and is ok, i guess. The material is delaminating where my pfd rubs the shoulders and elbows.

Buy once, buy a kokatat. There's a reason they are way more expensive... I feel like I post this every time anyone asks about gear in this forum. Kokatat lasts longer and is better built than anything else out there. Even if the NRS warrantee is good, their fabric sucks. The IR fabric goes to crap after a year or so. The palm isn't very breathable. Level Six is attractive (their products are stylish) but not the highest quality (don't buy them cause a pro uses them... remember, pros get what they want for free).
The gore-tex is an investment but you get what you pay for. I used my gore drysuit more than 300 days before I felt it was too dead to continue with. I am now into my 2nd season with my Kokatat Rogue Gore drytop, and I paddle it almost every day. The stuff is expensive, but that's because its well built. Look at what tops you see on the water that are still being used year after year... you'll see more old style Kokatat tops out there than anything else. Its not that hard.

J- I'm getting a Kokatat drysuit, but I don't want to spend the money on another Kokatat drytop when I know I'll either thrash it like I did with my IR, or never wear it because I'm in the drysuit. NRS seems like its a good middle ground, to replace the stupid "semi-dry" that leaks gallons, without spending too much, for those days that a drysuit just cannot be justified.

i think nrs's new stuff may deserve another look. they even came out with a new drysuit for kayakers recently. the booties on my friend's nrs drysuit are pretty bomber and its is seeming to hold up to his super abusive tendancies...
An NRS model seems like a good choice for your use Ashley, I bet you wont be in that drytop much though, having a Kokatat drysuit. Thats the way I usually roll too. I probably do about 5% of my trips around here not in my drysuit...
