Topic: Wanted: Boat for the Canyon Posted: 18 Nov 2008 at 7:39pm |
I'm looking for a boat to use on the Canyon - something fast, playful, yet comfy enough for three weeks on the water. No butt-bouncing playboats or creek boats needed – I’ve got plenty of those. I'm thinking along the lines of +/- 8', +/- 60 gallons, and squirtable stern. I'm sure some of you have an old WaveSport Score or Pyranha Inazone 242 collecting dust behind the scrap plywood in the garage that you'd like to unload. I could turn that oversized poly flower pot into some minor cash during this economic downturn, allowing you to get that special someone something extra this holiday season. Feel free to email me at jonalmquist@comcast.net if you've got the perfect boat.

Hey Jon,
I have a Necky Mission that may interest you. 7'2" / 57 gal and it's in good shape. PM me if that interests you.

The longer the better. There is a lot of flatwater on the Colorado. How about a Dancer for $150

Keep in mind this is for someone who's over 6' tall. Sorry Jon, all my boats are extra-small . . . but might you be happy in an RPM? (you could borrow my hubby's . . .)

Hey Brad. Thanks for the offer on the Mission. I actaully have one and if I'm in it for any significant time I get what I call "Necky hip joint pain" - something I found common with the Mission, Zip, Switch, etc. All good choices for the Canyon if it weren't for the ubiquitous hip issue...
JZ Knight, I mean Gold - the 232 is a touch smaller than I'm looking for, but thanks.
Tony - I emailed you about the pintail so we don't waste space holding the conversation on a public forum.
Thanks all,
Jon

I'm running the canyon this summer and if I could get a pyranha I:6? (i think)
for reallly cheap i might consider buying it, if not (99% possible) I'll be in either a super fun or a super hero.
any input on which one i should take?

I'd stick with the fun. There's a lot more flat then there is play, and the play that there is isn't very good in a slow boat. The extra foot room will be your friend too after paddling for 18 days straight.

okay thanks, I also want to check out tapeats creek, it looks like a interesting little class 4 run. we'll see if I feel like hiking a playboat up the canyon in the 100+ degree heat! our permit is for aug 1 - aug 16.

It is probably not exact boat you are looking for but I have a Euro Kayak Rapid Fire in my garage. It is about 9' and at one point was considered a play(ish) boat. Frickin' ender machine and you can probably squirt it. I use it for training and raced in it. Let me know if you want to paddle this bad boy. Oh, and John, how the hell are you? I hope all is well and we get to paddle sometime.
