I got a couple phone calls today telling of the news.  A 'true' Professor of the Paddle and beloved member of the E. WA paddling community drown on the St Joe Saturday.
 
Dr Tony Oertling (BooBoo) was a Chemistry Professor at EWU and an avid outdoorsmen.  I have run that stretch of the Joe by Marble Cr with him a few times, and its hard to tell what happened.  It is an annual springtime run for him and I know he has paddled it multiple dozens of times.  My thoughts are with him and his family.
 
Its big flows in ID right now, and as the snow continues to melt here, be safe you all.
