Topic: Wild Kayakers Posted: 10 Jun 2009 at 10:13pm |
I ran the MM solo today and ran into 4 different groups of kayakers. Some I knew, a lot I didn't. No one posted any trips or discussions and some of the kayakers I talked to didn't know about Professor Paddle. I estimated around 40 kayakers I saw today.
There is a huge underground scene around here, or maybe we are the underground...
Anyway, I went for a dirt bike ride and when I came back there were more kayakers the Arno and Deb group and Deb had COOKIES! Yum yum.
There are more boaters in this area than we know about...a lot more...to bad they all don't hook up with PP.

Im not busting on anybody, I'm just saying that we could grow our community if all those guys that didn't know about PP were somehow informed.

Lots of kayakers like to boat with a small group (think cliques), never venturing out of that group. I can think of several examples of that, to the point that I see people surfing turkey shoot on the Wenatchee that talk amongst themselves, but won't interact with other boaters. Frankly, this is less about our sport, and more about the way people conduct themselves in Seattle. PDX doesn't seem to have this problem.

By the way, Dave, no one called me today asking to do a MM run, so we can both feel left out together. No matter, most of the folks you ran into today will never see the gnar, let alone run it...

Seems like you two always have a chip on your shoulder about "people who don't want to boat with you". For the sake of this website, get over it.

i was on the middle middle today (which contrary to your claim, is running the gnar), and i was glad as a mother fucker that i was able to avoid dave. i saw that shithead out there and it would have ruined my day to have to hear his blabbling. the two of you ought to form a boating clique of your own, that way, people would not have to make excuses to get out of boating with you two. most would be stoked to be shunned by you. it would allow you both to save face.

Which Dave do you refer Mr. Hugo? My comment was directed at the Dave that posts as PowWrangler, who, to be clear, will not boat with me because I didn't vote for Obama. I am guessing you are a liberal, too, Mr. Hugo.

I thought only the Asians, or more specifically Chinese needed to save face? It is, after all, a concept attributed to south-east Asia. Last time I checked, I wasn't Chinese. You'd better not be calling me a communist, hugo! Them's fightin' words.

"Saving Face" is a sociological concept credited to the Chinese culture. The OED suggests a similar phrase was borrowed from the Chinese starting in 1876. As to the other statement, the bulk of China, excluding the ROC, became Communist in 1949. Have I sufficiently explained myself?

You must have been one of those nice people I ran into when I was riding my motorcycle. Everyone was so friendly yesterday, its hard to believe that you were one of them.
If I ever figure out who you are Hugo, I am going to give you a big kiss, cus you are such a funny and friendly guy or gal (I hope).

Ok. I don't chime in often but something is just really starting to bug me. This whole running the gnar thing has been brought up a number of times in the past and it's really getting old. Since we have been on both sides of the table, meaning that we used run some gnar and now we've chilled out, it's easy to see both sides. We were always proud of ourselves when we ran something challenging but never put others down that chose not to because in no way were they ever inferior to us for not chosing to run the same things we did. From the word on the street as to why many of these "underground paddlers" aren't on PP, I've been told it's just for this reason. There are too many paddlers on PP that boast about the gnar they've run and tend to make others feel inferior that choose not to. No one wants to be friends with people like that. So there you go. Stop the attitude and start making friends. You all know who you are, and if you don't, I'm sorry for you. If at any time someone were to feel I am boasting about a rapid I've run, I give you permission to slap the fool out of me and let me know it.

What's up with Tobin quoting me? I Confucius would never use the word reta@?. Also Dave, I am dissapointed in your lashing out at poor Hugo. You usually don't make such attacking comments. We were on the MM yesterday, about 5 of us and we didn't use this website because our group just left together from work early at the last minute. No need to post if you already have the most! This website is still a great resource though

Leif, I could care less about your political persuasion. I'm in the center and I don't mind paddling with folks that are to the left or right of me. Just to clear that up.
