Topic: Dry Bags to Donate Posted: 17 Nov 2009 at 12:15pm |
Hi Friends,
I'm in cold and dry Utah going to school (actually, I'm sitting in an HR class right now!) and I'm missing the Seattle wet rain and my crazy PP friends. But, school is going well, and the mountains around here are filling up with snow.
I just got an email from my old boss at REI, and they have some large backpack-style dry bags in the vendor returns department that they want to donate to a worthy cause. They can't return them to the manufacturer, and vendor restrictions won't let them sell the stuff at a garage sale. The bags look like this http://www.rei.com/product/784168
He thought maybe they could donate the bags to the Team River Runner group I helped out with in Tacoma, but I don't think they need dry bags like that. I don't think First Descents would need something like that either-- but maybe I'm wrong. They seem better suited to rafting groups. Does anyone know of a worthy group (maybe similar to TRR or FD) that could actually use these dry bags?
Many thanks,
Liz

Liz: There is a local WA non profit called Peak 7 that I am sure wouldn't mind a bit of gear help. Here is a link to their site http://www.peak7.org/index.htm They do good things, might want to drop them a line

Liz,
FD is always looking for gear like that. We always have at least 1 support raft that has all the medical supplies and food. So dry bags would be very useful.
With 7 camps set for this year, we could distribute them around as needed.
Let me know what information REI will need.
Cheers

Hey Liz,
Glad to hear school is going well for you. Keep warm.
Tobin is running a raffle for First Descents again this year and any gear your boss could donate as prizes, even if it isn't water related, might help him sell more tickets.
Keep in touch,
D

Peak 7 could certainly use the bags. Let me know if I can have someone come and pick them up. ryan@peak7.org
Thank you,
Ryan
