AccessVery easy putin and takeout. You can take your car right up to the water's edge (just don't park there). |
Putin DetailsTrout Farm Road Fishing Access. To get there from Hwy 2, cross to the East side of the Sultan River and take the 1st Left into Sultan (3rd Street). Once on 3rd Street, take the 1st left again onto Main Street. Main Street runs about a block before making a right hand bend and paralleling the Sultan River. Turn left at the 2nd stop sign onto Trout Farm Road. Drive a bit over a mile to the River access on the Left side of the road just before the county maintained road ends. |
Takeout DetailsSportsman Park in Sultan. Located at the west side of the US2 bridge over the Sultan River at the confluence of the Sultan River with the Skykomish. Places to eat within walking distance of the takeout. |
Fun FactsYou can always extend the run by continuing down the Skykomish for some easy big river paddling and play at the Ben Howard wave. |
Run Description [Season: ]For the most part this is a very chill run. However, the thing about this run that makes it a little concerning is there is a lot of overhanging branches on the sides and the current does tend to want to take your kayak there, but it is not hard to miss.
Many of the features start to wash out above 1500cfs. It gets a bit boney below 900 cfs in the very first rapid.
There are 3 spots on the lower Sultan that are useful:
One spot early in the run where a creek flows in from the right side and becomes a great place to practice ferries and eddy turns with a very distinct eddy line, and tons of room around it to relax and regroup.
The one short steep rapid about 1/3 of the way down that goes by the rock (stay far left, as the water tends to push you hard to the right towards the big rock).
One nice spot with a small wave that is surfable towards the end.
There are many places you can get out along the way - as Osprey Park and its trails run along the middle section.
