Putin DetailsAgain, it's easy access. From Slesse creek, continue up the road 7km to a bridge over the river. You can put in either at the camp on river right downstream of the bride or from the gravel road on river left just before the bridge. |
Takeout DetailsContinue up Chilliwack lake road to Slesse Creek. The river is right by the road here and there are several nice spots to take-out. Watch out for fishermen's lines. |

Other Issues
Use the "Chilliwack River at Slesse Creek" gauge for this run on the Environment Canada Levels site:
ENVIRONMENT CANADA
1.0m is low, but runnable
1.2m is medium-low
1.5 is medium
1.7 is medium-high
At 1.0m, the rapids are still fun, but the shallow sections between the bigger drops get bumpy. The locals run do ELF runs down to about 0.8m. Those who know the river well run it up to 2.0 meters or more, but it is very fast and continuous at higher levels.
The Chilliwack has a nice long season too. It often has water during the rainy season and it's high elevation snowpack keeps it running all summer in high snowpack years. |
Fun FactsOne of the closest BC runs from the border, and it's a fantastic one! |
Run Description [Season: Year-round]Sweet run just north of the border. The "canyon" is a bit of a misnomer. Most of this run just flows through a wide forested valley and only briefly walls up between rock walls. However, it's a very fun, continuous ride with great rapids throughout. The run starts at the bridge at Camp Foley and starts off easy with a mile or so of class 2+ warmup. The action picks up to class 3, and soon becomes a long series of III+ boulder gardens punctuated by class IV drops. At higher water it's a bitchin' stretch of class IV waves and holes. At higher levels it's very fast, continuous, so a swim would be long and cold and probably result in lost gear because it is so continuous. Stay in your boat and enjoy a phenomenal ride! Nearest gas station is about 10 miles from the river, so make sure your tank has a little something in it.
You can extend this run by continuing down the Tamihi section downstream, which is easier, but still has some great rapids and fantastic mountain views.
