Fun FactsAn easy class 3 run by itself, but is usually run as a continuation of the run upstream from Whitechuck to Clear Creek. |
Run DescriptionThis run isn't often done by itself, but as a continuation of the run upstream. Also the access spot at Backman is often used at a takeout for those running the section upstream or as a put-in for a longer run through the class 2 section downstream to the Suiattle or Skagit confluence. Lots of option on the Sauk.
From Clear creek to Backman (1 mile downstream) are 3 nice, but easier class 3 boulder gardens, making this a good run for those stepping up to class 3. Below Backman it eases off to swift drifting and occasional class 2 rapids.
One notable hazard is just upstream from the takeout bridge: Thee channel splits here and there are numerous wood hazards. A clean line can usually be found down the left side of the islands. Avoid the right side which has significant blocking wood. You can get a partial look at the hazards from the take-out.
