Run Description---submitted by jP---
It's 2012, and I stumbled upon this page to find it blank. In fact, it even said "Blank". WTF? So I'm banging one out...
People either seem to love or hate this run. I'm in the latter group, so those of you who love it should promptly wipe out this description and replace it with a proper one. I found it to be full of trashy drops and raspy basalt rubble. But there was enough wood chocked in there at the time that adding more water would have been scary.
The Warm Up Falls was a little more unpredictable than I expected, but fine. Really I didn't enjoy the way the run flowed, and quickly realized I had come only to run Behemoth, the voluptuous 30 footer. The canyon rapid leading up to it was clean, channelized, and enjoyable. Powerful too. Several paddlers I've talked to remark on how committing it is, being right above the falls with only a small pool inbetween.
Behemoth stands out as one of my favorite waterfalls, almost making the trashy rapids upstream worth it. A very slight left hand angle should help your bow to ride up on the curling plume coming off the left bank, and send you straight out. Don't push too hard left, though, or Behemoth may push back. That's what happened to Rob that day, and he ended up recirculating behind the falls like I've heard other boaters describe.
We just waited for Rob to emerge far below swimming after his boat so we wouldn't land on him, then one by one ran it. The canyon below is pretty sweet.
Anyway, I haven't been back. Someone who loves this run should give it the proper review it deserves.
