Putin DetailsDriving down from Barlow Pass the road will snake through an area where the lake is on both sides, then the road twists right and away from the lake. Find a pullout somewhere in the next few hundred yards and walk the short distance over a small hill to the river. Alternately, if you don't want to start out with back to back intimidating moves put in a bit lower just across from the Goat Lake trail head. Putting in at this lower access will take out a few of the largest drops. |
Takeout DetailsTake out at a Forest Service bathroom near some camp sites. It's the only one and just happens to be at the end of the goods. |

Other IssuesWood and a few sieves in places. Super Champ is significantly harder and more dangerous than the rest of the run. Scout. Meth heads cruise this place pretty hard, it seems. |
Fun FactsThe overall runnability and ease of access to this run is pretty good. Even the rapids that have wood still go. The road is within a hundred yards of the river at all times. |
Run Description [Season: Spring, Summer]The Lower section begins as the SF Sauk pours out of Barlow Lake. Within a hundred yards you're at the first class V section. This first drop deserves a good scout. As it turns the corner a sweet runway of boofs lead down a straightaway to the next bend. More drops, some are pretty meaty. Once to the confluence of Elliot Creek the river eases back to IV+ for a couple of drops, then some channel spanning wood marks the top of Super Champ. Super Champ is a V+ cascade with several sieves toward the bottom of the rapid. Followed by more excellent bouldery type drops. A half mile above the take out you'll come to Accelerator. This drop is at the bottom of some fun class IV boogie. Catch a large midstream eddy 20 yards above the lip, enter center going with the flow to the right then back to center. Boof. Boof. Boof. Booof. Boof. Boof. Plug. Boof. Boof. Fun boat scouting on this section mixed in with spicy big drops.
