Fun FactsThis section has HUGE waves above 10 grand. The takeout is called big eddy because it is a huge eddy.... just incase you swim at 10 grand. :-) |
Run DescriptionThis is a really sweet run for beginners and intermediates with a good roll (or not). The run has several decent rapids, good waves, some good holes and very few dangerous spots. It is also close to roads and homes for most of the run, which is good if you have a problem on the river.
The first rapid below the Railroad bridge rapid is the most difficult. There are a few big holes and wavetrains. Run down the middle and be mindful of the hole down at the bottom. There is a good pool below for picking up the pieces.
Below here is a fish hatchery on river right with lots of fishermen who are fishing on the sides. Stay in the middle and do not disturb them by throwing ends, loops, ect... this scares the fish (yeah right...) This is an easy scout from river left. There are multiple lines through here with a few bigger holes that form with more water. The exit wave train is a blast.
There are a couple more fun rapids, all run any which way. With a few great boofs if you're looking for them!
The next rapid is called Proctor Rapid, and sports Proctor Hole in the middle. This hole is right of the big exposed rock in the middle. This can be a really really big hole at flows above 5,000. Go right or left (right tends to be deeper) and ride the waves. More confident paddlers can find a sweet line down the middle between The Rock and Proctor Hole. The bottom of this rapid changed alot in the last few years and can be run mostly right of middle/middle with some fun boofs. The far right has gotten really shallow and so has the left at lower flows.
There's a short fun rapid after this. This rapid catches alot of beginners off guard as it's short, but has some steeper wave holes and rocks that make things challenging.
The next rapid is so much fun at a variety of levels. You can surf, boof, sneak, or challenge yourself. It's one of the longer rapids also. There's a big pool at the bottom to collect any gear after a swim.
The very last rapid is signaled by a large, red dirt wall on the right side that has been cut away by the river/ erosion. Around the corner you can see the Hwy 2 bridge overhead. This is the last rapid before the takeout. You can go right or left, but right tends to be pretty scrappy at levels below 3,000. Stay right to left and ride the waves to the big eddy takeout below the bridge. There's a big deposit that formed after the US2 bridge here, at low flows you have to sneak right to get some flow to get to the take out.
