AccessAccess via the MF Snoqualmie Road.
The MF Snoqualmie Road is now fully paved up to the MF Trailhead just before the Taylor River. https://flh.fhwa.dot.gov/projects/wa/snoqualmie/ |
Putin DetailsUpper put-in is just below the footbridge (MF Snoqualmie Trailhead). NW Forest Pass is required at this spot. You can put in on the Taylor too (expect some wood). There's a few other access spots you can use for a shorter run. |

Fun FactsCombine this with the middle and club stretch sections for a long run on a nice day. Bring snacks. |
Run Description [Season: Oct-July]The whitewater is not the highlight of this run. There are some fun, easy rapids, but the scenery is what makes this a great section of river. Unlike the "middle middle" downstream and it's steep banks, the upper flows through a wide glacial valley that offers fantastic veiws of the surrounding peaks. Definitely a run for a sunny day, and also nice when there's snow on the trees.
Most of the rapids are class 2, with a few that are just a bit harder. There is sometimes wood in play, so keep an eye out for that.
For the up and coming boaters who want a little more challenge, a great intermediate trip is to put in at the Russian Butte put-in about 3 miles above concrete bridge and then take in the first few miles of the middle-middle, taking out at First Island drop. This section is called the "mupper" ;-)
