Putin DetailsFrom take out drive 2.5+ miles north on alt-141 until Powerhouse rd. (there will be a convergence with WA-141) Take a left on powerhouse rd until the road turns into dirt, just before the dirt there is a large turn out on the right. Park here and follow a path down to the dam, then walk the catwalk on the water conduit (I think that's what it's called), then at the ladder on the right lower your boat. At the base of ladder follow a path that stays near the conduit and then moves towards the river, eventually the path falls down the cliff, here there is a rope for lowering your boat down to the river. |
Takeout DetailsTake out at the confluence of the the White Salmon and Columbia. There is a fair amount of parking near the intersection of Alt 141 and 14, park on either side of Alt 141. There is a steep path that goes down to the river on river left. During the Summer there will be a lot of fishermen parked here so be aware of that relationship. |

Other IssuesThe narrow canyon below Steelhead Falls sometimes collects wood and makes the canyon impassable. Get a wood report before running. |
Run DescriptionThe run starts out where NWern Lake used to be. The scenery isn't so alluring, but as paddlers begin their descent into the canyon proper gorge walls quickly emerge and before you know it, the White Salmon gives up her last "hallway". Steelhead Falls lurks downstream of the old dam site and the eddies are small for scouting/portaging. Both are on the left with a last chance eddy on the right. Only plan on the right eddy if you know you want to run it because you WILL be running it from this eddy. Below the falls paddlers will find more fun boogie with a few pieces of wood here and there. Keep an eye out because high water will certainly keep the wood situation in constant flux through this section. Poorly placed wood would be bad here. Eventually the gorge walls peel back as the White Salmon confluences with the Columbia.
