Kinda curious.... do many people run the robe with playboats? seems as long as it's not high water most of the run doesn't look too too bad.... or am I just kidding myself? James...Wetmouse?

Rob would be the person to ask....
My general rule of thumb is run it in a creek boat... and if you think you can handle it in a playboat safely without epic, check it out. I have not been out there when it has gone down but the gnomes report that they have had sightings of an Orange king pin passing by faceplant in an air stern squirt !!!

As one of Rob's many agents I will address this (since Rob doesn't have a computer, computer access, or a username on this site). Rob told me this past year he ran Robe on the lower end (under 5.3) in his Kingpin from top to bottom including Landslide. I am not privy to any time he may have spent in any of Robe's many holes. I know of one playboat trip only. The Gnomes James mentioned, I understand, are real and desrve respect. That said Rob is an amazing kayaker, always encouraging, and quite frankly, does shit in a kayak I've never seen anyone else do except in video.

I don't think that it would be fair to say that I wanna give it a whirl with rob being the only one doin it in a playboat.... maybe sometime, if I got really really really (did I say really?) familiar with that river. Thanks fer the info

I wouldn't run it at flows below 5.1 in a playboat since there's some pin potential in there. The paddle out is a little long as well so I wouldn't want to be in a one.
I'm not sure of your situation, but it sounds like you don't own a creeker? If you're primary experience has been in a playboat, I'd discourage you from ever bringing one in there.

Yeah, as everyone knows, I'm not a playboater. That said I'm familiar with the ways good playboaters stretch the - uh- MODALITY of their playboats/playboating repertoires to run hard, class V/IV runs (that's how I'd classify Robe). Such playboaters are the exception and not the norm, otherwise we would be citing more examples than just ROB.
One of the reasons Robe has such a notorious rep (we were just discussing it earlier on the river in questyion today in fact) is that it is so silty. There's plenty of clean lines even at lower flows if you know where they are, but the consistanly sedimented nature of the run obscures the mank.
It goes without saying that unless you REALLY know the run, your going to find a disproportionate amount of bones in the riverbed, even at medium flows. I'd advise against playboating it for the first few dozen trips unless you are really immune to beatdown.
Vote for ROBE!!!

Because I love robe so dog gone much I just had to finish this little area of PP to explore our database and mapping potential. Here is the Mapplet of RobeEvery river now has this feature if there are any GPS coords available. In the next week or two I will add the ability to drop features onto a map to gain coordinates visually.

I think you'd have to ask why you would want to run Robe in a playboat...
While Rob did run it in a playboat once (without getting out of his boat at any point), to the best of my knowledge he has not done so again. It's not worth busting up a perfectly good playboat and spending a lot of time upside down with your face against some good'ol sharp Robe rocks for the 1-2 potential playspots on the run.

Run it in playboat for an extra challenge at low-medium flows I would guess?
Gore Canyon in Colorado is a similar run except their are fewer rapids/less difficulty, but get's playboated often enough and has lots of sharp rocks in it. My first run down it was in a Riot 007.
