Hey guys-
Great site! really informative and comprehensive- nice job whoever set it up
Anyways- I'm living in Western new york right now but plan on moving out to the greater Seattle area in a little over a year (mainly because of the mountains and year-round boating). My girlfriend and I just bought tickets to fly out there this summer to check it out (9/6/09-9/16/09)(got them through priceline- super cheap, highly recommended!)
so we are coming out and we're thinking about tring to get in some paddling while we are there. problem is, we really can't afford to ship our boats. any of you think you could lend or rent us some boats and gear while we are there and possibly come out boating with us? probably looking to do some class 3-4 playboating- nothing too crazy.
also because we are planning on moving out there soon, I was wondering if you guys could suggest places to check out to live in the future... we're not really looking to live right in the city, or out in the boonies. but definitely somewhere accessible to year-round paddling. I recently read on here that the Sky runs all year so I was thinking maybe like Redmond area. We are both nursing students, so I don't think we should have any problems finding a job.
So, to restate my questions:
-Want to boat with us in the summer?
-Would you, or know anyone who would, be willing to lend/rent us boats and gear?
-Where would you most like to live in the greater Seattle area?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give,
Jim
or call 716-864-4581
and again really nice site- I wish we had half the boating community out here.... super jealous

Auqu sports in Redmond rents boats and so does SRK in seattle. Both of them will hook you up with any boat you may want. There should be links on this website to them, just click on the link tab at the top of the page.

See Charles at AquaSports for boats. Don't call him Chuck. He's in Redmond. IMO, Redmond is a great central location for quick strikes into the Skykomish, Snoqualmie, and Wenatchee drainages, three areas you'll find year round boating, from easy floating to endless sweet creeks. Buy Jeff Bennett's guide book.

I don't rent boats, but have a full fleet of Bliss-Stick boats that I do let people use.
As it gets closer to your trip drop me an email with what models and dates you want them.
Cheers

I've got a Wavesport ForPlay you can borrow, plus gear. I can get another boat if I have enough notice. I'd take Tobin up on his offer though.
Redmond is a great area to live, from what I hear. I live in Snoqualmie (98065) in a newer development called Snoqualmie Ridge. Mainly young families, but it has a pretty broad span. Housing ranges from apartments to condos, small homes to very large. The Middle-Middle and Powerhouse runs are closest, but we're just off I-90, 25 mi. from downtown Seattle and getting around is pretty convenient.
I'd choose where to live based on your daily driving as traffic here can be a bear. What type of work do you guys do?
Good luck,
D

This is a good thread to check out... lots of people from different zones talking about what they like about what not.... http://professorpaddle.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4599&PN=1
Welcome to WA! Where are you two attending school for nursing? If your students you might want to consider living more south because North of Renton and South of Monroe is mighty spending livin....

I'd vote for Woodinville over Redmond. Just slightly more on the outskirts, closer to the sky but still right by I-405.

Hey thanks for all your help!
Tobin, I would definitely be interested in tring out your bliss-sticks. I used to paddle a Huka, but have never been in a BS playboat.
Thanks for the link James, I will definitely check it out. We are going to school here (WNY), then when ever we graduate were going to move to Seattle area.
What kind of gear do you all think we should bring- I mean is it drytop/poogie weather in the begginning of June?
Thanks again- yall are the kindess folks I never meet!

Definitely bring this up again as the date gets closer - maybe August? - it's too early to tell what I'll be doing in September.
I live in Redmond and I can confirm that it's pretty conveniently located, but it's a bit spendy. Also, someone mentioned above that traffic sucks, so you may want to decide where to live based on where you'll be working / going to school. It doesn't matter too much where you live in Western Washington, you'll be no more than 45 mins from a river.

Jim,
I think you will find paddlers in this area are pretty amazingly welcoming to new people. Good peeps all around. I am proud to associate with most.
Drop me an email before you come out and i'll get you all kitted up.
Cheers and Happy Holidays.
