Topic: Middle fork road washed out Posted: 05 Jan 2015 at 11:36am |
Like the title says, middle fork road is washed out in multiple places. From what I understand, there's at least one washout past the concrete bridge, and a couple below. These aren't small trickles across the road, either, they were big enough to turn search and rescue around.

Looks like the flow was so high the gauge broke, too. Or maybe it was washed out?

Are you talking about the lack of data updates? I wish I was in the area, I would've liked to go out and see it.
But I got more info on road conditions, sounds like the issue with the road itself was long stretches of deep standing or slow moving water, rather than the river coming up to the height of the road. However, they locked the gate at valley camp, you can't even get to the mailbox parking lot.

The USGS gauge seems to still be working showing it in the high 20k's...

But it hasn't updated since noon and showed the same flow at 11 and 12.

The road is closed for sure. We had to put in just below A-Frame. It took us 15-20 minutes from A-Frame to Tanner...FAST RUN!!

Bummer...just when they had made good progress. I guess it was inevitable but how many times can the road be rebuilt?

If I had to guess I would say that road is either gone in places or far too unstable to drive on. I would give the North Bend ranger station a call before heading out...425-888-1421.

Called the ranger station and they are unsure where the road is closed, can someone confirm if the access at A-frame is a viable option. If so, not sure if I'll recognize it from the road, any info is good. Thanks!

There is a small turnout on the left side on the shoulder next to a telephone pole and a small gravel turnoff across the road from the a-frame house. I would ask if you want to park in the gravel lot across from the house but you can definitely park on the side of the road. There is a small trail down to the river next to a telephone pole.
