 Topic: Well... what's next? Posted: 16 Jul 2012 at 11:15pm |
I picked up paddling again this year in March after an 8 year break. I shredded on the Upper Green at various levels until it disappeared and then the MM. Now the MM is dropping and I'm seeing a lot of other rivers drop off as their season ends. I'm still new to Washington whitewater, so my question now is where should I start setting my sights. Obviously the Skykomish is an option. But what else? I'd like to make the best of the rest of July, August, and September.
As soon as it starts to rain some of the favorites will pick back up. But, I'm in no hurry to see the rain return.
I'd like to keep the traveling within a two hour time period. But if you have any "MUST GET TO THIS YEAR" runs, please let me know.
Thanks.

Thompson river but that's about 5 hour drive, well worth it though.

You make it up to FITW?
How about the Cooper?
Top Tye.
Icicle.
White Salmon.
There's some awesome garden variety options. Cooper may be dropping out fast though. Not sure. Haven't been following those Cle Elum flows this year.
When Icicle gets a little lower the Lower and Upper sections take on more of a class IV flavor, just go with someone who knows it, and scout scout scout before you put on.

Cooper should be good for a while as long as we don't get any hot spells or serious heat waves. I was out there last weekend and it was on the high side but it is going to be in the upper window of quality levels for the next week or two by my estimations, probably tapping out around the 2nd too 3rd week of august.

I'd say Cooper for sure. Thinking about maybe doing the Sky Saturday and heading to Cooper and camping saturday night Os if you want to join.
