To run the Southern Green you need to study the timber
company's road numbers, then go on there automated
phone line and determine if the roads are open.
This is a good class three run with two drops that are a little harder, which you can portage.
For levels there is a stick gage just upstream from take
at least it used to be. At 6 feet the river is low
and will seem long. Into the sevens are much better
levels. I have paddled over 8 feet a number of times.
Before the road issues we would wait for several days of hard rain and it would be good. I haven't paddled this for years due to closed roads when its running.
You can get a feel for flows from toutle gage.
For the two harder drops one is on the right and the other is middle right going right, but I caution you to
scout for wood both of these drops have had wood at
different times.
