Have any of you heard the latest about a company based out of Seattle called Brand Drops? Apparently they've been testing some new advertising medium that's similar to cloud seeding where they make rain smell like products. Their claim is that it's somehow an "environmentally friendly" form of advertising and that it'll get people to go out and buy whatever it is that they're smelling.

I've heard from King County environmental protection officials that they've already done some testing in Eastern Washington to test for lasting environmental effects so it seems to be true.

Does this mean our rivers will soon smell like french fries and Starbucks Lattes?!?

Here's the video and website:

Trust me, I thought the same thing. It wasn't until I received a response from the county that Brand Drops Inc. had received permits/authorization for testing that I realized it might be serious. I would doubt that the county is in on it too.

I would like to request the first company to advertise be Honey Bucket.

That way we could get everyone in the world against this idea really easily.

For all the effort they put into the video you think they'd put more effort into the names:

The scientist featured in the video is "Timothy Hagan, PhD" (see 1:18).

Tim Hagan is also an employee (not a PhD) for Publicis, the advertising company working with Brand Drops.

Coincidence?

I still say this was leaked just a few days too early.  Or maybe it's just someone's (gr)ad school project.  Or both...
