Greetings all, wanted to say Hello, my name is Rochelle and I live in Bellingham WA. I just finally got all my own gear together after dabbling for the last four years (and by dabbling, I mean competing, and traveling to rivers in places like Costa Rica). I'm on a riverboard. Don't let that scare you. We do about anything a kayaker would (probably not Palouse). I'm hoping I can show up to some paddle events and demonstrate how fun riveroarding is. Currently there are so few of us women I have to compete against the guys - although I still mop up. Next official event is the PRE, but we're doing an informal one in Colorado the weekend prior.
I want to run more rivers in my area, which could be anything from the Green up to the Nahatlatch. But I need to go with people who know the rivers, since the closest one I've done to home is White Salmon from BZ to Rattlesnake. (That was last year, before the trees. Loved the falls, did laps on it.) I'm signed up with the Eddie Flower Vertical Challenge so I need to get out there every weekend. I work M-F 9-5. Could probably do the Nooksak during the week.
Hoping to join you at the Ball. Will be exploring this site more, and look forward to seeing you on the river!
Thanks,
Rochelle

Welcome!!
I would love to see more river boarders out there. I haven't seen any for a couple of years but there used to be some regulars that did the Sky.
You should find a wealth of people hoping to have you join them here!!!

Hey there up4air, there are usually a bunch of people that meet at the nugents corner on the Mt. Baker HWY on thursday nights around 6pm that run either the Nooksack or the chilliwack.

No, James, you got me all wrong! I am no boat biggot! (or board biggot!) I mean, I'm in the minority here with the so-called "longboat". Don't tell me I don't know what discrimination is! . Why do you think Fish and I got along so quikly? IKers know what it is to be OPPRESSED BY the cookie cutter kayaking culture, where everyone looks, talks and acts the same-- ok I am grossly exagerating.
Welcome, Up4Air! I'd love to try your craft sometime! I'm a full spectrum paddler. I'll paddle any class of water, and I'll paddle any craft under the sun (though I only run the Vee in my Kayak(s) or a paddleraft!)

Yeah, JP. You're alright.... for a hardsheller. Like me you've been around this sport to see it evolve quite a bit over the years. Back in "the day" so to speak, whitewater boaters were more one community... kayakers, rafters, canoists... river boarders etc. etc. It was way more common to have trips on the river with several different kinds of boats in your group. Over time kayakers kinda started doing their own thing more and more and even broke down into smaller sub-groups... playboaters, creekers, etc.... and the same kind of thing happened with rafters. It's kinda too bad in my opinion. There's lots of ways down the river and it's fun to try them all. I've got a good look at all sides... I started as a rafter, got into IKs next, then hardshell kayaks, and yes I have a Carlson riverboard too that I take out now and then. Variety is great in my opinion. I get bored doing just one thing too much.

Up4Air- you going to the Wenatchee this weekend? A bunch of us are. I'm hoping to paddle a fair amount on Icicle, as usual, but there will be lots going on. Anyway maybe we'll see you out there.
Got a spare riverboard? If so bring it to the Ball!!
