Random Quotes from the Peanut Gallery
After swimming at Anderson Hole I had to decide that swimming Boulder drop down the center was safer than trying to swim over to the River Left bank and try to get out.I wouldn't have made it out above the strainers lying in wait over there. So I relaxed my whole body and controled my breathing, and I shit you not I swam right down through the center, more or less. I swam over three huge pourovers or holes and went deep each time, patiently waiting to bottom out to where my bouyancy would engage. When I felt that sensation I'd swim up to the surface as hard and quick as I could, where i would break the surface for a needed gasp of air before relaxing agin to get shoved deep for the next round. After resurfacing the third time I noticed the tail end of the rapid and the waves getting smaller. They were only 6' high here and the wavetrain was more orderly. I began swimming for all I had (having saved my energy for this moment) at a 45 degree angle toward the Lefthand bank, planing my body as best I could with my feet kicking. I grabbed some tree roots and rock as the water rushed by them. I got out halfway between the bottom of B.D.(at normal flows)and the top of The weir. - jP
